Competitive Exams Conducted by UPSC

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), New Delhi conducts the following Competitive Examinations. Details about these examinations are given below in brief. Full particulars including exact dates of exams are published in the Employment News and some other prominent National Dailies.

1.Combined Medical Services Examination.
Eligibility : M.B.B.S. Degree
Age : Below 32 years as on 1 January of the year of exam. Candidates appearing at the final M.B.B.S. Examination are also eligible to complete subject to certain conditions. Selected candidates will be appointed only after they have completed compulsory rotating internship.
Notification : August.
Last Date : September.

2.Combined Defence Services Examination (I)
Eligibility : (i) For IMA and OTA : Degree of a recognised University or equivalent. (ii) For Naval Academy : B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering. (iii) For Air Force Academy : Any Graduation with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or Bachelor of Engineering.
Age : 18-23 years as on July 1st for IMA, 20-23 years as on July 1st for Naval Academy, 19-23 years as on July 1st for Air Force Academy and 17-24 years as on July 1st for OTA. Candidates appearing at the degree or equivalent examination are also eligible to complete subject to certain conditions. (Note : The exam is conducted twice a year.

Last date : April for CDS - II).

3.Civil Services (Preliminary & Mains) Examination.
Eligibility : A degree from a recognised University or equivalent. Candidates possessing professional and technical qualifications which are recognised by Govt. as equivalent to professional and technical degree would also be eligible for admission to the Examination.
Age : 21-30 years as on 1 August of the year of Examination. Candidates appearing at the degree examination also eligible to complete subject to certain conditions.
Notification : November.
Last Date : December.

Preliminary examination held in the month of May.

Only such of the candidates as are declared qualified on the results of Preliminary Examination are eligible to take the Main Examination which held in October.

Interview or Personality Test in April and final result declaration in May.

4.Engineering Services Examination.
Eligibility : A degree in Engineering from a recognised University or equivalent. M.Sc. Degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subject acceptable for certain Services/posts only.
Age : 21-30 years as on 1st August of the year of Exam. Candidates appearing at Engineering degree or equivalent examination also eligible to compete subject to certain conditions.
Notification : January.
Last Date : Feb.

5.Indian Forest Service Examination.
Eligibility : A Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a degree in Agriculture or Forestry or Engineering of a recognised University or equivalent.
Age : 21-30 years as on 1st July of the year of the Examination. Candidates appearing at the degree examination (with prescribed subject) also eligible to compete subject to certain conditions.
Notification : February.
Last Date : March.

6.Geologists Examination.
Eligibility : Master’s Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad; or Master’s degree in Mineral Exploration (for posts in Geological Survey of India only).
Age : 21-32 years as on 1st January of the year of Examination. Candidates appearing at their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination (with prescribed subjects also eligible to compete subject to certain condition.
Notification : May.
Last Date : July.

7.Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination.
Eligibility : A Post-graduate degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics for the IES and a Post-graduate degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics for the ISS, from a recognised University or equivalent.
Age : 21-30 years as on 1st January of the year of Examination. Candidates appearing at the Post-graduate degree or equivalent examination in the relevant disciplines also eligible to compete subject to certain conditions.
Notification : July.
Last Date : August.

8.Assistant Commandants’ (CPOs) Examination.
Eligibility : Passed Graduation. Possession of NCC ‘B’ Certificate of NCC ‘C’ Certificate is desirable qualification. Candidates possessing professional and technical qualification which are recognised by Govt. as equivalent to professional and technical degree would also be eligible for admission to the Examination.
Age : 20 to 25 years.
Last Date : June.

9. Asst. Provident Fund Commissioner Exam. by UPSC
Age : Not exceeding 35 years as on the date specified in the notification. Relaxation in upper age limit is admissible as per rules in force.
Educational Qualification : Degree of a recognised university or equivalent.Desirable Qualification : Diploma in Company Law/Labour Law/Public Administration.
Notification : June.
Last Date : July.
Test : December.
